Lately I've gotten little bumps on my face. They don't itch like bug bites, but they're ugly! My mommy thinks that I'm becoming a teenager. I think I need to get some pimple medication.
Are you becoming a teenager too? I just turned 10 months - how old are you, Ody?
My human said the bumps look like doggie acne or maybe something called "folliculitis" (which just means inflamed fur follicles). Both are common in young dogs. It usually goes away on its own.
But sometimes the bumps can get infected by icky staph infections that benefit from a course of antibiotics. So watch out for bumps that multiply or don't go away.
If your human wants to try putting pimple medicine on the bumps, be sure she doesn't use a human product. The active ingredient (benzoyl peroxide) is used for for dogs and people, but most human acne stuff contains 10 percent benzoyl peroxide. Doggie skin is more sensitive so the maximum concentration for us is 5 percent. Shampoos are a good choice. Most contain 2.5 percent.
Thanks Puglet! That's good to know about the pimples. I am right about 10 months too! Sounds like we need to get together and party down some time to celebrate our glorious youth!
My mommy has a ton of pimple medicine, so I can just get some from her. It sounds like we can just do a dilution with water in order to achieve the 5% concentration.
These pictures are actually almost a week old. They are fading a bit but since my dad snapped these pictures, my image is forever tarnished!
